VisitGoverning executive
Chapter is the governing executive. The Minster’s strategic vision, policy and priorities are overseen by Chapter on behalf of the Corporation.
Chapter is responsible for the implementation and delivery of every aspect of worship, mission, outreach and learning, as well as the Minster’s properties and finances. It is advised by a number of specialist committees and external advisors.

Cathedral Council is an advisory body whose members have wide ranging local and regional interests and bring immense knowledge from both within and outside the Church of England. Its primary functions are to provide Chapter with objective, critical, constructive advice and to scrutinise Chapter’s activities.
Council can instruct Chapter to report on any area of the work that it wishes to scrutinise and as the Minster’s constitutional ‘watchdog’, Council has the power to report on matters of concern to the Archbishop (as the Minster’s ‘Visitor’) and to the Church Commissioners.

The College of Canons consists of clergy and lay people drawn from the parish churches of the Diocese of York.
Its principal function is to be ‘the voice of the Diocese’ in the Corporate Body’s policy discussions, and to assist Chapter in developing closer ties between the Minster and the parishes of the Diocese, especially through Chapter’s programme of outreach and engagement work.
